You may think it’s impossible for a single mom to save $15K in less than a year. I will tell you from experience, it’s possible. Everyone’s situation may be different but along my journey to building my savings, I will share what tools and resources I used.

I want to be upfront, I am sharing this with you because I want everyone to know it’s possible for anyone to save money. Even a single mom.

So here are the resources that helped me save $15K in a year.

Start a new job

When I first started saving I was a stay-at-home-mom with no income of my own coming in. I had wanted to continue to stay home and work from home but had a hard time doing so in such a short time. That’s when got a job outside the home. I only received some assistance for a little bit in the beginning so I could get on my feet (just wanted to make that clear and get it out of the way) It lasted for a short time as I started making too much money for a two person household.

I have a strong background in sales so earning a living with little recent work experience came easy for me. I suggest you get into whatever you are good at and make it work.

Downsizing living space

I could have continued to stay in my two-story townhouse that we lived in but decided that living with family for awhile would be a better fit.

I first lived with my grandpa where there were two rooms available for us. Within 9 months I moved to my dad’s house where we slept on the couch.

We made due and am so grateful for all the support. I now live with my mom temp-permanently until I decide to get my own place. We have our own rooms and split the bills. It’s by choice as I am okay financially to get a house if I desired to.

Limit spending

It’s been 2.5 years since I have been continuing to save. I had to limit the amount of money that I would spend on a regular basis.

Creating a budget to expenses will help you make responsible financial decisions and keep you in check with your spending habits.

Where Am I Today

In October 2016, I left my day job. I earn an income from different income streams including freelance, blogging, and selling online. Follow me on my journey to making money from home: selling on ebay.
